Ingredients

  • 250 grams ground beef (I use a plant-based version)
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle chopped, divided
  • 1/2 cup white onion diced, divided
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • frozen tater tots (roughly 400 grams)
  • iceberg lettuce shredded, for topping
  • tomato diced, for topping
Big Mac Sauce
  • 1/4 cup + 2 teaspoons mayo
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 3 teaspoons dill pickle chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons white onion diced
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pickle juice
  • splash of vinegar
  • pinch of sugar

Equipment

  • frying pan
  • wooden spoon
  • 9x9 baking dish

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Combine the Big Mac sauce ingredients and set aside.
  3. Over medium heat, cook the beef until cooked through. Add 1/4 cup diced pickles, 1/4 cup diced onion, and 1/4 cup of the Big Mac sauce. Mix to combine.
  4. Transfer the beef mixture to a 9x9 baking dish and spread it on the bottom. Top with the shredded cheese and line with tater tots. Bake for 50 minutes. If needed, broil for 2-3 minutes to crisp up the top.
  5. Drizzle the tater tots with the remaining Big Mac sauce, and top with the lettuce, tomato, and remaining onion and pickle.

Notes

If using regular beef, drain the grease before adding it to the casserole dish.
Broil the tater tots for 2-3 minutes if they're not crispy.
